Volunteer Opportunities

Event Opportunities: You can help make a difference in the lives of individuals in our community by volunteering at our special events. Opportunities include one-time commitments as well as ongoing.

On-Going Positions: Through a commitment of a few hours per week for at least 6 months, you can join our community in making lasting change in your own life and lives of others. Help brighten someone's day by being a visiting friend in one of our group homes or assisting individuals with community inclusion programs.

Internships & Practicum Placements: Albertina Kerr serves as a field placement for undergraduate and graduate level students in the areas of psychology, social work, special education, counseling and other professional human services. To apply, please submit the volunteer application along with you school requirements.

School-Required Service: If you are looking for up to 10 hours per term, sign-up for our One-Time Projects to fulfill your requirement. If you are looking for 10 hours per week per term, most of our ongoing positions can be adapted to meet requirements.

RACE FOR THE ROSES VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Times are approximate - Final times will be confirmed 2 weeks prior to race weekend. Snacks and t-shirts will be provided to all volunteers. CLICK HERE to sign up for any of the following volunteer opportunities.

Packet Pick-Up  -  Friday, March 31, 2017  -  Noon to 3:30 p.m.  or  3:30 to 7 p.m.
Location: Foot Traffic, 4020 NE Fremont, Portland, OR 97212
Volunteers will assist with packet pick-up, selling merchandise and handing out shirts. 12 volunteers needed, 6 per shift.

Packet Pick-Up  -  Saturday, April 1, 2017  -  10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  or  12 to 2 p.m.
Location: Foot Traffic, 4020 NE Fremont, Portland, OR 97212
Volunteers will help with packet pick-up, event set-up, finishers roses and more. Correctly identify and distribute pre-registered participants' race packets, t-shirts and goodie bags. Sell race merchandise, register new racers, set-up for Sunday or help at the information booth. 

Information Specialists  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  5 to 8 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Provide helpful information to race participants, supporters and fellow volunteers, hand out course maps, provide parking instructions, direct people to the appropriate areas, answer questions and be available to work both inside and outdoors. 30 volunteers needed.

Volunteer Registration  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  5 to 8 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Provide assistance to the Volunteer Manager at the volunteer registration check-in station. Correctly identify volunteers, direct them to their positions, provide them with snacks and t-shirts.

Champagne Garden Volunteers  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  7 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Must have your OLCC to be a volunteer. Volunteers will assist with checking ID, monitoring the garden area and distributing champagne and orange juice to runners post race.

Photographer's Assistant  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  7 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Provide assistance to race photographer by carrying equipment and prepping participants for photos. 4 volunteers needed. 

Day-Of Race Registration  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  5 to 8 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Correctly identify and distribute pre-registered participants' race packets, t-shirts and goodie bags. This is a fast-paced and busy position that requires a volunteer with a calm and friendly demeanor and great organization skills.

Dry Clothing Check-In  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  5 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Your job will be to check dry clothing from racers prior to the start of the race using a number check-in system and retrieve it for them after they have completed the race. This is a fast-paced and busy volunteer opportunity that will work well for highly organized and positive individuals. 

Race Course Cheerleaders  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  4 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Cheer on racers as they cross the Steel and Morrison Bridges. Pom poms provided!

Food and Beverage  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  6 a.m. to Noon
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Your job will be to help with the setup/distribution of the food and beverage for the post race food and package food for donation following the race for charitable donation. 15 volunteers needed.

Awards  - Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  7 to 11 a.m
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Your job will be to help setup, organize and distribute the prizes and medals at the Awards Ceremony, includes passing out roses. 

Recycling/Clean Up  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  7 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Exhibit Hall A -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Your job will be to help sort recyclables in the race exhibit hall and keep the hall clean and free of trash during post-race activities. This is a great opportunity for hard workers who enjoy staying "behind the scenes."

Race Course Bikers  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  6:30 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Along Race Course -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
This is a fantastic opportunity for the biking enthusiast! Ride along the race course and be the "eyes and ears" of the race staff. Report issues at aid stations, along the race route and with participants and/or volunteers. Trouble-shoot or fill in the aid stations when necessary and provide feedback to the race staff. You must be able to provide your own bicycle, helmet and cell phone and have experience riding long distances. You will be outdoors during the entire race. Interested volunteers with First Aid and/or CPR training are encourage to apply. 6 volunteers needed.

Course Aid Stations  -  Sunday, April 2, 2017  -  5:30 to 11 a.m.
Location: Oregon Convention Center, Along Race Course -  777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland
Support the participants with water, electrolytes, energy bars, and cheers of encouragement at an aid station along the course. Your job will be to set up your aid station prior to race start, fill water cups, set out electrolyte and energy bars for the participants to hydrate as the run or walk past your station. Keep your station stocked for racers and keep the area clean and easy to access. This is a wonderful team-building opportunity for volunteer groups. Be in the midst of the action and cheer on the racers! The most festive and outrageous aid station will win an outstanding prize. 42 volunteers needed, 6 at each aid station. ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

ALBERTINA’S KITCHEN  -  2 days per month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday - Friday 
Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave., Portland, OR 97232
Dream about becoming a celebrity chef? In our eyes, every volunteer in the kitchen is a celebrity. Albertina's Kitchen is known for its heritage-inspired lunches with modern twists in a garden setting. Volunteers can help prepare and serve gourmet lunches, take reservations, host and cashier.

ALBERTINA’S HEIRLOOMS  -  2 days per month, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Saturday
Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave., Portland, OR 97232
Interested in antiques and collectibles? Contribute your time and talents to Albertina’s Heirlooms, where customers will discover vintage and luxury bargains along with treasured collections, china patterns and one-of-a-kind gifts among consignments and donations from the area’s loveliest homes. We’re seeking managers, salespeople, cashiers, pricers and space designers.

ALBERTINA’S JEWEL BOX  2 days per month, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Saturday
Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave., Portland, OR 97232 
Albertina’s Jewel Box sparkles with artful jewelry and accessories featuring the work of locally based artists and vintage pieces alongside contemporary home and holiday décor. Join the buying team. Select and purchase merchandise, help with inventory and stock merchandise. Work in sales and cashiering or create displays.

ALBERTINA’S CLOSET  -  2 days per month, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Saturday
Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232
Offers fine quality new-to-you clothing for men and women; fashion jewelry, household items, books, linens and much more. We need volunteers to price & display clothing, kitchen items, cards, gifts and more and model clothes in Albertina's Restaurant.

SEWING VOLUNTEER  -  As needed, depends on current needs. 
Location: From home
Make blankets, vests, curtains, pillows or specialty items to help liven up our group homes for adults and youth. Weighted blankets & vests are also needed for therapeutic support of all individuals served by Kerr’s programs.
