Here are some of the volunteer opportunities currently available:


Long Term Volunteer Opportunities

VISTING FRIEND

Location: Youth Group Home or Adult Group Home (Hillsboro, Gresham, Salem & Eugene)

Commitment: Minimum of 6 months, 2 times per month, schedule depends on individual

Visit with someone in need of a buddy, especially on weekends and holidays. Volunteers will have the chance to work directly with clients, providing care and attention to a child or adult with a developmental disability.

 

ART FROM THE HEART VOLUNTEER

Location: Art from the Heart (NE Portland)

Commitment: Minimum of 6 months, 2 days per month, 9am-2pm, Monday - Friday

Provide art activities to individuals utilizing Kerr’s Art from the Heart school and studio program. Community Inclusion provides both employment and alternatives to employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will help with art projects, assist teachers, coordinate their own projects and socialize with individuals in the programs.

 

PORT CITY DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTEER

Location: Port City Development

Commitment: Minimum 6 months, 2 days per month, 9am-2pm, Monday - Friday

Work directly with adults in one of the wonderful areas of Port City. Port City provides employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers can assist with a variety of different areas within this program, including; screening printing, gardening, urban farming, art (ceramics, painting weaving, etc.) production, wood working (mason bee houses, cutting boards, tables, etc.) If you enjoy using your hand and working with people this is the perfect place for you.

 

COMMUNITY INCLUSION VOLUNTEER

Location: Community Inclusion Site (Oregon City, Gresham, Tigard, Salem or Eugene)

Commitment: Minimum 3 months, 2 days per month, 9am-2pm, Monday - Friday

Participate in various activities offered at the Community Inclusion site, supporting and spending time with adults who have developmental disabilities. Examples: story-telling, makeovers, photography, music, theme days, parties, crafts, paper-making, gardening, games, coffee clubs, etc.

 

 


ACTIVITES VOLUNTEER

Location: Various

Commitment: One time or long term

Do you have a special skill, program or activity you would like to share? Provide group activities to enhance recreational and social skills for adults or youth who are utilizing Kerr’s Community Inclusion, group home services, Intensive Treatment Program or Crisis Psychiatric Care Program. Examples of activities include arts and crafts, yoga, theater, music, choir, greenhouse gardening, crafts, knitting, crocheting, cooking, sports, cultural information, etc.

 

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY VOLUNTEER

Location: Children’s Developmental Health Services (Cedar Hills)

Commitment: Minimum of ten 2 hour blocks over 3 months

Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Program or attending classes as a post baccalaureate student in Speech Pathology. Volunteers will observe therapy sessions of children with a wide range of diagnoses and treatments. They will also assist with day-to-day clinic tasks including: upkeep and maintenance of treatment spaces/materials.

 

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY VOLUNTEER

Location: Children’s Developmental Health Services (Cedar Hills)

Commitment: Minimum of ten 2 hour blocks over 3 months

Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Program or attending classes as a post baccalaureate student in Occupational Therapy. Volunteers will observe therapy sessions of children with a wide range of diagnoses and treatments. They will also assist with day-to-day clinic tasks including: upkeep and maintenance of treatment spaces/materials.

 

AUDIOLOGY VOLUNTEER

Location: Children’s Developmental Health Services (Cedar Hills)

Commitment: Minimum of ten 2 hour blocks over 3 months

Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Program or attending classes as a post baccalaureate student in Audiology. Volunteers will observe therapy sessions of children with a wide range of diagnoses and treatments. They will also assist with day-to-day clinic tasks including: upkeep and maintenance of treatment spaces/materials.

 

ALBERTINA’S KITCHEN

Location:424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232

Commitment: 2 days per month, 10am-3pm, Monday - Saturday

Dream about becoming a celebrity chef? In our eyes, every volunteer in the kitchen is a celebrity. Albertina's Kitchen is known for its heritage-inspired lunches with modern twists in a garden setting. Volunteers can help prepare and serve gourmet lunches, take reservations, host and cashier.

 

ALBERTINA’S HEIRLOOMS

Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232

Commitment: 2 days per month, 10am-3pm, Monday - Saturday

Interested in antiques and collectibles? Contribute your time and talents to Albertina’s Heirlooms, where customers will discover vintage and luxury bargains along with treasured collections, china patterns and one-of-a-kind gifts among consignments and donations from the area’s loveliest homes. We’re seeking managers, salespeople, cashiers, pricers and space designers.

 

ALBERTINA’S JEWEL BOX

Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232

Commitment: 2 days per month, 10am-3pm, Monday - Saturday

Albertina’s Jewel Box sparkles with artful jewelry and accessories featuring the work of locally based artists and vintage pieces alongside contemporary home and holiday décor. Join the buying team. Select and purchase merchandise, help with inventory and stock merchandise. Work in sales and cashiering or create displays.

 

ALBERTINA’S CLOSET

Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232

Commitment: 2 days per month, 10am-3pm, Monday - Saturday

Offers fine quality new-to-you clothing for men and women; fashion jewelry, household items, books, linens and much more. We need volunteers to price & display clothing, kitchen items, cards, gifts and more and model clothes in Albertina's Restaurant.

 

GARDENING VOLUNTEER

Location: 424 NE 22nd Ave Portland, OR 97232

Commitment: Flexible Schedule, Monday - Sunday

Volunteer have multiple options to help out at Kerr locations with gardening. First, you can join the landscape and gardening committee at the Old Ker Nursery restaurant and shops. Help with general gardening, watering, pruning and maintenance around the historic landmark building in NE Portland, OR. Secondly, you can help at Project Grows urban farm! Administrative Volunteer Opportunities

 

OFFICE SUPPORT

Provide clerical and administrative support in a number of different offices located: Cascade Station, NE 22nd Ave., Beaverton, Hillsboro, Salem & Eugene.

 

MIS (IT) VOLUNTEER

Provide support to Albertina Kerr Centers MIS staff for networking and system administration, which includes the design, deployment, and security of computing infrastructure; Web and multimedia content development, programming and application development, including database management systems and Wed-deployed applications; and technology integration and deployment in a user community, including needs assessment, user-centered design, technology transfer and ongoing support.

 

MARKETING ASSISTANT

Assist Development Team with various projects related to marketing and communications and branding.

 

DEVELOPMENT VOLUNTEER

Assist Development Team with events, volunteer coordinating, clerical and administrative support.

 

MEDICAL RECORDS FILING

Provide filing support to Albertina Kerr Centers’ Operations Management Team.

 

BILLING SPECIALIST

Provide assistance to the Finance Department by helping with the full-cycle billing process to ensure timely and accurate claim submittal, follow-up, and collection of payment from payers, e.g., insurance carriers, patients, agencies and others, for services provided by Albertina Kerr Centers.

 

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER

Provide support, research and administrative support in Family Resource Center.  Assist in family involvement projects/initiatives, financial education and other assistance as assigned by supervisor.  Help families navigate resources and utilize available equipment (computers, printers, etc…) Provide assistance to families and staff in locating resources with a focus on statutes and regulations pertaining to Social Security Disability Benefits, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Child Welfare, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; identifying free and reduced cost legal aid for families and other areas of family law and disability law as needed.

 

 

Volunteer Opportunities from Home

 

SEWING VOLUNTEER

Make blankets, vests, curtains, pillows or specialty items to help liven up our group homes for adults and youth. Weighted blankets & vests are also needed for therapeutic support of all individuals served by Kerr’s programs.


Event Volunteer Opportunities

SEPTEMBER

Kerr Games for Youth

   -Participate and help with carnival games & sports activities.

Golf Auction & Tournament

  -Event set-up, live auction support, golden ticket selling, Wine games and Golf Tournament.

 

OCTOBER

Harvest Festival

-Join for a day of fun selling food, face painting, etc.

 

NOVEMBER

Wish Tag Assembly Party

-Help organize and put together wishes from every child and adult in our programs to send out into the community.

 

DECEMBER

Grant-A-Wish, Holiday Gift Sorting Volunteers

-Help sort gifts for kids and adults in our programs

 

FEBRUARY

Valentine’s Day Card Making

-Hand make cards from home, your office or attend our card making event!

Spotlight on Kerr Annual Gala, 80s Prom Themed

 -Event setup, Check-in, Greet guests, OLCC servers, Coat Check, Wine & Auction games

 

APRIL

16th Annual Race for the Roses: 1/2 Marathon, 10k and 5K

-Food servers, Recycling, Bike, Registration, Volunteer management support, Dry Clothing Check, etc.

Kerr Games

-Serve Breakfast, judge food contest, help with indoor sports & games

 

Internship Opportunities

 

EVENT MANAGEMENT INTERN 

Assist the Event’s Manager with fundraising events such as the annual Golf Classic- Auction & Dinner, Spotlight on Kerr Gala, Race for the Roses 5k, 10k & ½ marathon and more!

 

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN      

Assist Communications Manager with various projects related to marketing and communications.

 

HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN     

Assist with clerical and administrative tasks in the Human Resources department as needed 

 

MSW INTERNSHIP          

Students work with Presidents of Developmental Disability and Youth and Family Services to provide the best possible services to the community by shadowing the CEO of the agency.  Work with a board of directors and team of outstanding professionals in the field. 

 

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT INTERN     

Aid the Community Relations Manager in volunteer recruitment, screening, training, tracking and program evaluation.

 

STUDENT NURSING INTERN       

In collaboration with Clinical Supervisor provide nursing assistance to people served in Kerr's medical group homes and Crisis Psychiatric Care Program

 

FIELD WORK/ART THERAPY- MASTERS LEVEL INTERN (1ST YEAR GRAD STUDENT)              

In collaboration with Art Therapist provide structured art activities to clients.

 

INTERN: UNDERGRAD- CRISIS PSYCHIATRIC CARE PROGRAM (SUBACUTE)           

Provide assistance to staff in crisis psychiatric treatment facility.  Respond to potential health problems/hazards in timely prescribed ways.  Intervene with clients only under direct supervision of assigned staff.
