At Albertina Kerr’s Inclusive Day Services—Oatfield site, participants are putting their skills into action through an ongoing volunteer partnership with Sunshine Division in Wilsonville. As part of Kerr’s Day Support Activities (DSA) program, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities take part in hands-on experiences that strengthen routines, build confidence, and foster community connection. Volunteering at Sunshine Division is one way the program offers meaningful engagement in a supportive, person-centered environment.
Each week, the Oatfield group supports food assistance efforts—sorting items, assembling boxes, and, recently, taking on snack production. Kerr Community Support Specialist Alejandra Nash shares, “Every day that we come together, I see firsthand how much we’re growing—in spirit, skills, impact, and connection.”
Regular participation plays an important role in this growth. Alejandra notes, “With every visit, every task, and every moment we dedicate, we’re not just volunteering; we’re building something lasting. Each of us brings unique strengths and talents, and by showing up regularly and giving our best, we continue to improve our performance.”
The group’s work with Sunshine Division reflects what Inclusive Day Services strives to offer: opportunities to learn in the community, build on individual strengths, and participate in ways that feel meaningful.
