When Charisann, who lives in a Kerr group home, finally boarded a plane for Las Vegas, it marked the realization of a dream that had been years in the making. She had been eagerly anticipating this trip since before the pandemic, and when the moment finally arrived, her excitement was overflowing.

“Charisann was super happy that her vacation was FINALLY happening,” said Marcie Lowe, Kerr Program Manager II, who supported her on the trip. “She had a full agenda of going and going – we did so much!”

Las Vegas had always been high on Charisann’s list of must-visit places. She loves the vibrant atmosphere, the dazzling lights, and the endless entertainment options. A highlight was seeing the Terry Fator show, and she also visited a wax museum for the first time.

Marcie said the trip was planned together from the start to reflect Charisann’s goals. “I first sat down with her and discussed all the activities she wanted to do during her trip. Then, I presented her with all the options and information so she could make an informed decision. I made sure she had all the necessary support for transportation, food preparation, and room accommodations, empowering her to voice what she wanted to do and make it happen.”

Marcie also coordinated logistics – from researching hotels and flights to budgeting meals, so Charisann could focus on enjoying her trip.

One moment stood out to Marcie: “Going out at night, she was loving the lights and sights, including the view from her room of the Bellagio fountain with the Paris building in the background. Charisann was living her best life.”

Trips like this are about more than sightseeing – they’re about meaningful choices and life experiences that bring joy and fulfillment. Marcie said, “It is important for the individuals we support to feel they have a choice in their life, that they, too, can explore the world and discover new things – it keeps their hearts happy.”
