Albertina Kerr proudly celebrates Direct Support Professional (DSP) Kristine Curtice, one of only 20 recipients statewide of the 2025 Oregon Resource Association (ORA) Works of Heart Award, which honors extraordinary contributions to supporting people with disabilities.

Selected from more than 70 nominations, this recognition highlights her 20 years of empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead meaningful, self-determined lives. Also recognized were DSPs Topher Britten, Echo Barnard, Victoria Carter, and Eric Clark, who received honorable mentions for their outstanding contributions. Their professionalism and compassion exemplify the values that make Kerr’s services exceptional.

For two decades, Kristine has helped people gain confidence and independence—teaching skills like using public transportation, managing money, and cooking. She turns everyday activities into opportunities for personal growth.

Her support goes beyond skill-building; she fosters genuine, trusting relationships. Kristine listens without judgment and encourages self-advocacy, inspiring others to believe in themselves. “She reminds them that they are enough,” says Kerr Program Manager Mary Carpio. “Her compassion and consistency inspire confidence.”

Even when challenges arise, Kristine’s commitment never falters. She often arrives early to help people attend unified sports events and celebrates every success, creating a sense of belonging and community. Those who work alongside her say her calm, caring presence makes every day better.

Kristine’s dedication, creativity, and kindness embody what it truly means to be a Direct Support Professional. We’re thrilled to see her hard work and heart recognized with this well-deserved honor.
