What happens when someone shares a dream, and their support team hits “Start” on making it a reality?
One individual in a Kerr group home is a passionate gamer and a longtime fan of Super Mario Bros. When he heard about SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ at Universal Studios Hollywood—a fully immersive land that brings the world of Super Mario™ to life—he shared his excitement with his Kerr team. They listened. With their support, he began planning a trip, inviting two friends who also receive support in Kerr group homes to join the adventure.
All three individuals saved and contributed to the cost of the trip and rental house. With help from staff, they created a vacation based on what mattered to them: spending time together, having new experiences, and exploring Universal Studios and Disneyland.
It was a trip full of firsts: first time on a plane, first time out of state, and first visits to the parks. Kerr staff ensured the experience was fully accessible by researching ADA accommodations to help the group board rides with ease and providing support when needed.
“They lit up with joy. They did great on the plane and the rides. They were confident and excited,” said David Gutierrez, Kerr Assistant Program Manager.
Each person experienced the trip in their own way—trying new things, spending time with friends, and making choices that reflected their interests. They returned home proud, happy, and already talking about where they should go next.
