Mike Ide never misses a chance to visit the library. Whether he’s checking out a new book or flipping through magazines, he enjoys the sense of possibility that comes with every visit. “They’ve got good books and better options than what’s at home,” he explains.
At Albertina Kerr’s Paths to Community Inclusive Day Services in Gladstone, Oregon, Mike has spent the past eight years embracing new experiences—from cooking classes to community outings. But for him, the biggest takeaway isn’t just the skills he’s gained. It’s the confidence he’s built—especially when managing his money and chatting with cashiers.
“It’s important for me to be here—it makes me feel like I belong,” says Mike.
What keeps Mike coming back? The people! He’s surrounded by friends and is grateful for staff members—whom he describes as kind, funny, and always willing to help.
