Dear Friends of Albertina Kerr,
It feels like fall with the kids returning to school and the change in the weather. This fall is extra special because Kerr will be hosting our first in-person signature event in almost five years on Friday, September 13, at Castaway Portland, presented by Ferguson Wellman & Mary Lago. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, there’s still time! You can join us in person or virtually (for free!). Click here for tickets.
Programs are always busy at Kerr! We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new Inclusive Day Services Program in Beaverton. (Photo: Top Left) Our Day Service Activities (DSA) support adults with disabilities through fun-filled outings and on-site skill building. Participants explore their communities, practice and apply skills, and have opportunities to develop long-lasting connections with others. Kerr has additional Inclusive Day Service sites in Clackamas and Multnomah counties.
I want to extend a warm welcome to our newest psychiatrist, Dr. Jon Swan, D.O., to our Crisis Psychiatric Care for Youth (Subacute) team. His compassionate approach to mental health care aligns perfectly with our mission of providing exceptional care. As a transplant to Oregon, he’s busy exploring the Portland community! We recently hosted a Fun Zone at Kerr Bikes, where our team and clients enjoyed a day of fun, connection, and celebration. In the waning days of our warm (and dry!) weather, now is the perfect time to rent a bike and enjoy the outdoors! Kerr Bikes was also featured in San Diego Magazine, showcasing the fun that can be had for those visiting our amazing city! (Photos: Bottom Left and Top Right)
As Frontline Employee Appreciation Week (Sept 8-14) approaches, we are excited to celebrate our incredible staff’s dedication and hard work—including Behavior Specialists, Community Service Specialists, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Employment Consultants and Coordinators, Job Coaches, Program Managers, Psychiatric Technicians, and Skills Trainers. Their commitment to excellence drives everything we do.
Albertina Kerr has proudly been part of Portland’s Kerns neighborhood since 1921. Last month, we joined the Kerns Neighborhood Association for their Annual Picnic, connecting with our neighbors and reflecting on Kerr’s long history and positive impact in this vibrant community. Finally, as we recognize National Suicide Prevention Month this September, we stand united with the national effort to raise awareness and promote life-saving resources. Supporting the mental health of those in our care—and beyond—is vital to our mission.
Thank you for your unwavering support. You make it possible for us to continue making a profound difference in the lives of so many.
Warmly,
Allison Stark
