Dear Friend of Kerr,
As summer winds down, I’m excited to share important updates about Kerr’s growing impact—made possible by your support. In our residential youth homes, staff are preparing young people for a successful return to school. This year, six of the youth we support are entering their senior year of high school. Throughout the year, we’ll be alongside them as they plan for life after graduation—whether that’s higher education, entering the workforce, or vocational training—we look forward to seeing each student choose their own path. Here’s to a strong, hopeful start to the school year!
Albertina Kerr now has a seat at the national table shaping policy, quality, and innovation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). I was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR)—the nation’s leading voice for providers like Kerr. We’re honored to have this opportunity, which gives Kerr a direct role in national policymaking at a time when discussions about Medicaid funding and disability rights are front and center. Having this voice ensures the needs of the people we support are represented and protected, while also allowing us to bring back ideas that strengthen our services.
Another area of progress has been our work expanding Dual Diagnosis services for youth with both I/DD and mental health needs. Our Dual Diagnosis team recently participated in the Youth I/DD Mental Health Summit, where professionals from across the state shared powerful insights on advancing trauma-informed care and ensuring youth are supported in their communities. These conversations strengthen our work as we continue expanding Dual Diagnosis services across our homes.
We also recently wrapped up our three-year strategic plan (FY23–25), which brought significant accomplishments: 37% growth in people supported through our Crisis Psychiatric Care for Youth (Subacute) expansion and our merger with Exceed Enterprises; the addition of Dual Diagnosis services in six of ten youth homes; national quality recognition with three-year accreditation from the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL); improved financial stability; and the successful reestablishment of Together for Albertina Kerr as our annual signature event. We also invested $680,000 across 24 capital projects, including upgrades at Subacute and group homes, supported in part by a generous grant from the Clark Foundation. And this summer, we launched the Therap electronic record system to streamline documentation and improve the quality of care.
On Thursday, September 26, we’ll gather to celebrate the impact we’re making at our annual gala Together for Albertina Kerr, presented by The Standard. You can join us in person for an evening of stories, connection, and a live auction — or watch the virtual livestream from anywhere and still be part of the experience. However you choose to participate, you’ll see firsthand how your support transforms lives. Get your tickets or RSVP watch online today!
Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive community. I hope to see you — in person or virtually — on September 26!
Warmly,
Allison Stark
CEO, Albertina Kerr
