Although she tends to be on the quiet side, LaToya Propps (pictured left)—a Kerr Direct Support Professional (DSP)—is not afraid to be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves.
In October, LaToya was honored by the Oregon Resource Association (ORA) for her dedication and excellence with the 2020 Works of Heart Award at the ORA’s NW Conference on Disability Services.
When visiting one of her clients in the hospital, LayToya overheard disparaging remarks. With her quiet strength, she explained to the health professional that even though her client is nonverbal, she hears everything, and she has feelings.
The parents of LaToya’s client overheard her advocating for their daughter and are grateful she is in their daughter’s life.
